Inequalities that persist. On March 5, a study published by INSEE highlighted that in 2022, the average wage income of women was 23.5% lower than that of men in the private sector. Data integrated from the Les Glorieuses newsletter. Based on Eurostat data, the newsletter publishes each year the date from which female employees start working for free to alert people to the still staggering pay gap between women and men. In 2023, it is therefore on November 6th at 11.25am that women are no longer paid for their work.
The sectors most affected by this wage gap
This time it is a signed British studio claims.co.uk which addressed the issue of the pay gap between women and men to identify the sectors in which inequalities are greatest. To do this, it relies on data collected by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS: Office for National Statistics).
The first sector is that of justice, where female lawyers and judges receive an average salary of 29.1% lower than their colleagues. In second place are management and financial administration positions. In third position, web designers. The full ranking is available on the British media website Meter (in English).
Note, however, that these findings are based on the labor market in Great Britain. In France, the latest data on the subject shows a slightly different observation.
The first branch where the gap is largest is that careers in dental practices (55%), followed by law firms (50%) e Activities on the financial markets (48.2%). To analyze this gap it is necessary to take into account the structure of employment in these sectors: in fact, in these three sectors (even if the first two are predominantly female), managerial positions are occupied predominantly by men.
