Another wave of racist harassment for a racialized actress. The Indian actress Avantika Vandanapurecently seen in the remake of Lolita despite myselfhas been subjected to a wave of racist comments online for days.
The reason ? The actress would have been contacted to act Rapunzel in a possible live-action version produced by Disney. Because, according to an image of the publication shared (later deleted) by an Internet user on Milo Mannheim.

But after the announcement of this news, there was no shortage of racist attacks against Avantika Vandanapu, with some fans leaving negative comments under the actress’s Instagram publications, expressing their dissatisfaction with the alleged casting.
“You’re not Rapunzel” one user wrote, while another added: “ Girl (you’re) cute, I love you but you’re not made for Rapunzel. I’m sorry, you don’t look anything like him “. Fans also film themselves on TikTok to denounce this casting: “ I pretend the little girl in me isn’t so upset about the Tangled casting [sic] live. » says a TikToker, while another declares: « Unpopular opinion, Rapunzel is a blonde white girl (..) sorry but a brunette girl with long black hair is NOT Rapunzel. »
Yet despite the speculation, Disney hasn’t even confirmed the project’s existence. It’s also not the first time Disney remakes have sparked racist comments over their casting choices. Singer Halle Bailey, who took on the features of Ariel in The little Mermaidpaid the price, with fans believing the main character couldn’t be black.
