If luxury is not experiencing the crisis, but is enjoying it, it is a completely different matter for mid-range fashion which is collapsing in France. This sector has eliminated more than 37,000 jobs in the last ten years and there are no longer any receiverships and liquidations to count. While sellers lose their jobs and struggle to retrain, part of the general public follows the drop in prices, in a context of terrible inflation. It is in this more than gloomy climate that the Fast Retailing group (Uniqlo, Comptoir des Cotonniers, Princesse tam tam) has decided to significantly lower prices.
Why Comptoir des Cotonniers and Princesse Tam Tam lower prices by 30%
Kunii San, current president of the group’s two brands, announced these price reductions to the specialized media FasthionNetwork. They are the result of a restructuring plan launched in 2023 to revitalize its business. According to their new price list, most items will cost less than 100 euros, except larger ones like coats which are expected to go for 200 euros. At Princesse tam tam the bar is even lower: lingerie will not cost more than 50 euros. Overall, the prices of these two brands have dropped by about 30%.. In particular thanks to the centralization of their production chain with that of Uniqlo.
What are the new lowest prices at Princesse tam tam?

On the Princesse tam tam website, the lingerie brand explains that prices have decreased but not quality:
“Princess Tam Tam has always been thought of as a brand close to women, therefore accessible. The quality does not change. There will be no lower quality materials or fewer materials. Size 40 will not become 38, nor thongs will become thongs, because we would have saved meters of fabric. This price reduction is made possible thanks to production synergies within the Japanese Fast Retailing group, owner of the brand. »
Now you can find bras for under €30, panties for under €20 and even nightgowns for under €40.
What are the new lowest prices on Comptoir des Cotonniers?

Same observation at the Comptoir des Cotonniers, in a page entitled ” our commitment: beautiful, sustainable, accessible »: you can find organic cotton jeans for less than €100, 100% merino wool sweaters for €75, or even European linen t-shirts for less than €30.
In 2023, Fast Retailing has already decided to close almost half of its stores (28 out of 67) and to reduce staff at Comptoir des Cotonniers by 50%. Same strategy for Princesse tam tam: 27 out of 69 stores closed, obviously also accompanied by a strong reduction in staff. A good fashion plan from the budget side, less so from the social side.
