This is much better news than last year, when we learned this Jeanne du Barry, Maïwenn’s problematic film with Johnny Depp will open the Cannes festival.
This year, this cinephile mecca continues to highlight French productions, but this time it takes a twist comedy and absurd. It was none other than the prolific Quentin Dupieux who was chosen to open the most famous film festival in the world, with his thirteenth film entitled The second act.
Act Two: what is it about?
After the intrigues about giant and intelligent flies (Jaws), a live tire (Eraser), a director looking for the best cry (Reality) or even a serial murderer who can’t stand anyone other than him wearing a jacket (The deer) Quentin Dupieux faces this time a “street film” carried by four actors.
The film’s synopsis was revealed in a press release from the festival:
Florence wants to introduce David, the man she is madly in love with, to her father Guillaume. But David is not attracted to Florence and wants to get rid of her by throwing her into the arms of her friend Willy. The four characters find themselves in a restaurant in the middle of nowhere.
Who are the actors in the casting?
As usual, Dupieux will present a top-notch cast, this time reunited Léa Seydoux, Vincenzo Lindon, Louis Garrel as well as his favorite actor, Raffaello QuenardoCaesar’s the male revelation in 2023. This will be their fourth collaboration after that Jaws, Smoking makes you cough AND Yannick. Lindon and Seydoux will mark their first steps into the Dupieux world.
