5 very talented Russian designers you didn’t know about. fix the situation

The global fashion world stands on the shoulders of designers like Miuccia Prada, Daniel Lee, Mathieu Blasi, Demna Gvasalia, Glenn Martens and many more. Every year, new names with big goals and very bright talents emerge in the fashion arena. Some become creative directors of fashion houses, others invest all their strength in their “brainchildren”, others try to combine the duties of both the first and the second.

What about in Russia? We have said many times that the domestic industry is developing at a dizzying pace. Moscow and St. Almost every week, new places of power appear on the fashion map of St. Petersburg, attracting the attention of all “players” in the field – from bloggers and stylists to editors and urban fashionistas.

However, it often happens that we are well familiar with a product, but not very familiar with its author. This situation needs to be corrected urgently. That’s why today we decided to talk about five talented Russian designers that you may not know about.

Pavel An

Brand 001pax

Pavel An, founder of the 001pax brand, studied at Central Saint Martins college, where Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Giambattista Valli and Stella McCartney once designed their first collections. He later worked as an assistant designer at the DAVID KOMA studio. And in 2020, he created his own brand and opened a cozy studio in Solyanka. The basis of 001pax is silhouette dresses, tops and skirts that follow the lines of the female body. By the way, the designer himself says that he is constantly looking for new lines that do not violate body proportions. Now the brand’s products are worn by the capital’s leading girls, from Olga Karput and Polina Gagarina to Valya Karnival.

Daniil Antsiferov

Brands Daniil Antsiferov and Les Archives

Russian designer Daniil Antsiferov has been in the industry for over 10 years. At the age of 17, he graduated from the Novosibirsk Light Industry College and went to study at the aforementioned Central Saint Martins. Then he returned, worked with individual orders for more than two years, and in 2009 opened his first brand, Daniil Antsiferov. The designer himself admits: everything he created as part of this “project” is his legacy and personal history. Daniil is inspired by cinema, pays great attention to detail and gives a special message to each piece in the collection. Meanwhile, the designer decided not to settle for a single brand and presented a new project called Les Archives in 2022. We are sure that you have seen the main fashionistas of the city more than once in the brand’s branded vests and jackets with different buttons.

Olga Vasyukova

Brand Red September

Olga Vasyukova’s creations are known and appreciated not only in Russia but also abroad. Last year, the Red September brand’s visuals featured Julia Fox, Halle Bailey, Demi Lovato and Diplo, and we don’t even dare to count the number of Russian celebrities. So what do we know about the mastermind of this brand? Olga studied at the Polimoda Institute of Fashion and Design in Italy. Immediately after graduation, she started working at LPP company, or more precisely at Reserved company, in Poland. Having gained experience, he returned to Russia and opened his own brand, Red September, which surprisingly combined surrealism, absurdity and even practicality. Olga Vasyukova invites us to wear reversible jeans, “broken” jackets and shirts of complex design. And we willingly accept all these experiments.

Galya Glinskaya and Veronika Povalyaeva

Brand Rejo

The story of Galya Glinskaya and Veronika Povalyaeva, founders of the Rejo brand, proves that nothing is impossible. Six months ago, they had discussed with their husbands that their male and female halves would launch clothing brands within agreed deadlines and budgets, and the one whose brand was more successful would win. As we already know, the girls and their joint project Rejo won. In just over a year, it has won the love and appreciation of a large half of the domestic fashion community. And almost every second girl dreams of iconic fur coats with ruffles made of corrugated tulle. Rejo (derived from the word rejoice, meaning “to rejoice”) has very accurately entered the global trend towards translucent things. Thus, tights, long sleeves, skirts and bodysuits made of mesh with butterfly-shaped appliqués became the main feature of the young brand.

Andrey Mordovin

Brand MARDO._

Andrey Mordovin is another talent in the domestic industry worth knowing a little more about. His path in fashion began with a passion for graphic design and creating prints for a Russian brand. Shortly after, Andrey entered the master’s program at the HSE School of Design, and his 2019 thesis became the first collection for the brand Mardo. The up-and-coming designer ventures into bold experiments, inviting girls of all stripes to wear bold leather skirts with holes, asymmetrical bodysuits and tops, flowy skirts and cut-out jumpsuits. Meanwhile, Andrey designs everything using 3D modelling. He says this helps save resources and define the concept more accurately.
