Scientists prove that low income accelerates brain aging

As a result of their research, Swiss scientists found that poverty accelerates people’s aging. The Journal of Neuroscience wrote about this discovery.

751 people between the ages of 50 and 91 participated in the study. Experts analyzed their data. It turned out that the white matter in the brain of poorer participants broke down faster. These participants also performed worse on cognitive tests. People with higher incomes had more advanced cognitive abilities.

As a result, scientists concluded that financial stability contributes to less decline in cognitive abilities. At the same time, experts did not take into account the social and environmental factors in people’s lives.

It is planned to continue research on the relationship between the microstructure of the brain and income level in more detail in the future. To do this, scientists believe that data from a larger number of people must be analyzed. We have previously written about what will happen to the brain after 50 years.
