Hop, here we are again with our selection of children’s books! Here are our little favorites for this sweet month of March. Hey, doesn’t it smell like spring around here?
We say thank you, from 3 years
Written by Emile Jadoul and published by the Pastel editions of the École des Loisirs, We say thank you it’s a great album to teach little ones the importance of kindness. The story is that of a bunny who decides to organize a picnic with his friends. He prepares a large chocolate cake, arranges the tablecloth, prepares the dishes and everyone throws themselves into the preparation, without a thank you. The bunny reminds them of the importance of courtesy, especially with friends.

In the flowery forest, from 4 years old
A great book written by Karen Jameson, illustrated by the talented Marc Boutavant and published by Kaléidoscope. The designs are sublime, full of subtlety, and the text is a delicate and captivating poem, full of rhymes, celebrating spring. We fell in love with the poppy field that makes you want to run through it!

We, the shy ones, from 4 years old
Written by Simona Ciralo – who received the Sebastian Walker Prize in 2014 – and published by Pastello editions, We are shy it’s a cute album about tolerance, acceptance of others and shyness. It tells the story of Maurice, an umbrella-bearing octopus and a particularly shy newcomer to class. He doesn’t want to attract attention and hides as much as possible, yet seeing him allows you to measure all his talent.

The best bedtime story… and in bed!, for ages 5 and up
And hop, it’s a little crush on Louise Fitzgerald and Kate Hindley’s album, released by Little Urban. In The best story of the evening… and in bed!we discover that the shortest stories are sometimes the best. Here the story is officially divided into three sentences. But getting ready for bed takes longer. A perfect album for all the lumps who don’t want the story to ever end and who don’t want to go to bed.

In my house, for 2 years
Published by À pas de loups – who we love – this album by Maxime Derouen is sublimely designed, with great delicacy. Aimed at the little ones, they learn the beginnings of seek and find, and can learn to count by looking for zebras, giraffes and bears. Very soft and perfect for evening reading, we love it!

A garden of happiness, from 4 years
Another favorite this time is Britta Teckentrup’s cut-up album, released by Glénat Jeunesse. For all children who have difficulty falling asleepfor all those who are a little afraid when night falls, for those who don’t want to dive into dreams for fear of not knowing what we might find there… This album, with clippings that go perfectly with the poetry of the story, is a little gem, both for children and for those who read this story to them.

The recipe for a fantastic journey, from 2 years old
In this hardcover album for little hands that like to tear up everything, we embark on the color train for a beautiful journey to freedom. Written by Angélique Leone, illustrated by Haruka Harris and published by École des Loisirs, it is perfect for starting to learn the colors of the rainbow, admiring the sublime drawings of the Japanese illustrator with a delicate and imaginative brushstroke.

In the car Simone, from 5 years old
And hop, another crush, this time for In the car Simone, written by Géraldine Collet, illustrated by Maurèen Pavoinec and published by Glénat Jeunesse. Here we laugh, both adults and children, with all the puns and distorted and transformed expressions to perfectly punctuate the story of these chickens who leave to save one of their own, locked in a cage. Chickens who are not here to waste time, who want to enjoy life, ride a tuk-tuk and see the sea, to get their paws wet. A real success!

The dream boat, for 6 years
Landerneau Prize 2024, The boat dreams by Séverine Vidal and Julien Arnal, published by Gallimard Jeunesse, is a hymn to daydreaming, imagination and travel. Embark with Idriss and Simona aboard their incredible flying machine to explore the great kingdom of the night. A graphic, poetic beauty that deserves to have its own Youth Album of the Year Award.

Twelve months in a bear’s skin, from 5 years old
You’ll probably fall in love with the story of Simon, the teddy bear who wanted to live a life like no other. Written by Laetitia Rohrbach and illustrated by Maurèen Pavoinec (whose brushstrokes we adore), all published by Margot editions, this album is beautiful, funny, sassy and deeply touching. It follows Simon’s life over the course of an entire year, from birth in a den, to exploring the world, to searching for tasty foods. He may live the good life in a rich man’s villa, but he will end up finding his mother’s warm arms again.
