Is the State responsible for the death of Sandra, 31, killed by her ex-partner in Bordeaux on 2 July 2021? For those close to him there are no doubts.
According to the information FranceInterthe young woman’s family decided to take her to court for gross negligence because neither the police nor the justice services, despite having been questioned several times by Sandra in the six months preceding her death, had managed to prevent her femicide.

A “state dysfunction”
Second FranceInterSandra had been separated from Mickaël since the beginning of January 2021. After suffering three years of verbal abuse, he allegedly became violent on New Year’s Eve. Sandra then decided to leave him, moved out and filed a domestic violence complaint on January 6. 2021.
Unable to bear being left, Mickaël insults her, stakes out her new home and inundates her with messages, sometimes pleading, sometimes threatening. On February 24, he presented a request for a protection order to the family affairs judge in Bordeaux, which was rejected. At the end of March she wanted to file a complaint of harassment at the Bordeaux police station. The officers who welcome him refuse to accept his complaint: according to them he can only present a handout because his ex-partner remains on the public road.
Three months after filing a domestic violence complaint, the prosecutor’s office ordered a social investigation. But Sandra continues to live in fear. She files a new complaint for harassment and malicious phone calls. Summoned into police custody on 29 June, he was placed under judicial supervision following his release. Hiding in Sandra’s garden shed, he kills her at home while her daughter is at school.
The State has failed in its duty of protection towards the young girl’s relatives. “Sandra had faith in justice. She did everything, she tried everything. She was always very explicit about what was happening, about the seriousness of the facts and about the fact that it was increasingly serious and increasingly annoying.”his lawyer Me Elsa Crozatier declared to the microphone of France Inter, which underlines a “state dysfunction”.
In addition to the trial of Mickaël F. which will take place next December, Sandra’s family intends to stir up the “for others” victims of domestic violence:
“My daughter, it’s too late, but what about the others? There are still feminicides, I can’t stand by and watch, I need to tell them to their faces: ‘You haven’t done anything’. »explains Annie, Sandra’s mother.
This is not the first time that a family questions the inaction of the police and justice services in a case of femicide. But as France Inter points out, state positions remain rare. The latest concerns a woman killed in 2014 in the North by her ex-partner, and for which the State was condemned to pay 100 thousand euros to her family.
