A pro-Palestinian demonstration opened the ceremony
Six minutes. They represent delay after which the Oscar ceremony began this Sunday, March 10, 2024. Six minutes eminently political. And for good reason: on the edge of the Dolby Theater, where the ceremony took place, a large demonstration was organized calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. This meeting was organized by several groups of Hollywood professionals such as Writers against the war in Gaza (WAWOG), Film workers for Palestine OR SAG-AFTRA ceasefire members.
Far from being isolated, this demonstration comes less than two weeks after the arrest of 25-year-old actress Hunter Schafer. The latter had been tied with her hands behind her back and then released after taking part in a demonstration for Palestine. The demonstration was organized by a collective of anti-Zionist Jews to urge President Joe Biden to order a ceasefire.
The demonstration organized near the Dolby Theater gave rise to a gathering of cars, then to the arrival on foot of numerous guests at the ceremony, as shown in the images of the Hollywood reporter.
Protesters disrupted the flow of traffic to the #Oscars red carpet, forcing many attendees to get out of their cars and head to the Dolby Theater
