The film “Inshallah a son” by Amjad Al Rasheed, in cinemas from March 6, 2024
THE first Jordanian film never selected at Cannes comes out the week of March 8th and shines a light a gangrenous systemAS many others around the worldspeaks patriarchy.
It immerses us in modern-day Jordan where we follow Nawal, a 30-year-old woman whose husband is struck by death. If Nawal’s world collapses from one day to the next, it is because in Jordanian legislation, a single woman with a daughter is deprived of basic rights, including that of enjoying the inheritance that should be theirs. Between a repetitive daily life, a threatening environment and deeply sexist rules, we follow this Jordanian woman’s struggle to save her daughter and her home, in a society where having a child would be a turning point.
