Breastfeeding is not a sexual act. Breastfeeding is not a sexual act. Breastfeeding is not a sexual act. Breastfeeding is not a sexual act. Did the message arrive? Obviously not.
Indeed, as reported by the channel M6 during intercourse in his 12.45pm On February 29, a new trend emerged on social networks and more specifically on Instagram: creators of pornographic content are using the exemption that has existed since 2015 regarding the exposure of breasts on the platform. On Instagram, in fact, videos showing the bare chest, including nipples, are tolerated if they show a person breastfeeding their baby. Only here there are no real children, but dolls. As for so-called breastfeeding moms: they don’t breastfeed at all, at least not in these videos.
Breastfeeding is not a sexual act
It is a feminist, parental and social struggle: to normalize breastfeeding and fight to ensure that it is not assimilated to a sexual act. In real life, Breastfeeding is not an act of sexual display. Article 222-32 of the Criminal Code, which defines sexual exhibition, says that is whenthe explicit commission of a sexual act, real or simulated, is forced into the sight of others. Breastfeeding is the action of feeding your baby your milk, so there is nothing sexual about it.
But here, in these videos, a huge step backwards takes place: breastfeeding is sexualized. THE male gauze it is launched at full speed and shatters the entire struggle we have been carrying on for years. Just look at the disgusting comments under these videos, easily found by simply typing the hashtag #breastfeeding (breastfeeding in French) in the Instagram search bar and finding this content in the gondola above: “I can be your baby” OR “I identify as a baby and I need milk”. Disgusting.
There’s enough room for the X elsewhere
Everyone has their own delusion, we are not here to judge. If some people’s favorite thing is watching women pretend to breastfeed a fake baby, it will do them a lot of good! But there are enough platforms dedicated to sexual fantasies on the web. The problem here is that these sex workers, also active on OnlyFans, (and those behind this rich idea) they are a real blow to all breastfeeding women trying to gain confidence in their breastfeeding, their body and their principles.
Unfortunately, the story doesn’t just stop at videos of these content creators pretending to breastfeed: as explained Publication, The fake accounts also use real videos of women breastfeeding their babies and reshare them, without their consent, “under the guise of educational promotion of breastfeeding.” Explains one of these women, an American, whose video was reshared on one of these fake accounts Publication :
It is deeply disturbing and violent that men steal photos of breastfeeding mothers and sexualize them. There is never an excuse for this type of behavior that aims to degrade women. [Il faut] Always report these accounts so that they stop attacking mothers.
Alison Cavaillé, founder of the breastfeeding clothing brand TajineBananaalso reacted to this uplifting message on his Instagram account:
For years we have been fighting for breastfeeding, in public spaces and everywhere else, to be accepted and normalized, and bam, we come across this type of video. In the “backpedaling” genre, we’re not bad. We know that 17% of breastfeeding women feel discriminated against in public spaces when forced to do so breastfeed their baby outside the home, we are in bad condition. Let’s remember that some people are still insulted, kicked out of the Louvre or Disneyland Paris because they dare to breastfeed their baby. It is not with videos like this, published on such a far-reaching social network, that we will be able to get out of the woods.
