If you follow the Caesars, this is a sign that may have intrigued you. Between the numerous victories of women in prestigious categories, the irresistible rise of Anatomy of a Fall, or even the speeches denouncing male violence, several personalities wore the same red pin, with an orange hand in the center.
What does the red pin with the orange hand worn during the 2024 Césars mean?
This pin, worn notably by Adèle Exarchopoulos, Kaouther Ben Hania, Audrey Diwan, Arieh Worthalter and Gala Hernández López, was used to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

In addition to the badge, some personalities also took advantage of the awards to give a more explicit peace speech, such as Kaouther Ben Hania, awarded the César for best documentary Olfa’s daughters :
“It’s so horrible and no one can say they don’t know. This is the first live massacre, live on our phones. »
Arieh Worthalter, César for best actor for his role in The Goldman Trial, also said: a call for a ceasefire in Gaza because life demands it “.

You may have already seen this red badge with the orange hand at other high-profile awards ceremonies, such as the DGA Awards (Directors Guild of America Awards), worn by Mark Ruffalo. But where does this symbol come from?

Where does this symbol of the orange hand on a red background for the ceasefire in Gaza come from?
We owe this symbol to a collective of American artists called Artists4Ceasefire who published a petition in October 2023, illustrated by this orange hand pierced by a black heart on a red background, on this topic:
“We demand that as President of the United States, you and the United States Congress call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost. In the last 4 months, more than 29,000 people have been killed and more than 60,000 injured*: figures that anyone with common sense knows are catastrophic. We believe that all life is sacred, regardless of faith or ethnicity, and We condemn the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians.
We urge your administration, Congress and all world leaders to honor all lives in the Holy Land and to call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay – an end to the bombing of Gaza and the safe release of the hostages.. Half of Gaza’s two million residents are children, and more than two-thirds are refugees and their descendants forced to flee their homes. Humanitarian aid must be able to reach them. »
Countless personalities have already signed this Artists4Ceasefire petition, such as Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lopez, Alyssa Milano, Kristen Stewart, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Lupita Nyong’o, Tahar Rahim, Oscar Isaac and even Omar Sy.
During the SAG Awards on February 24, 2024 in Los Angeles, other stars wore this symbol of a ceasefire call.
