“ Fashions come and go, style is eternal. Fashion is futile, style is not », said Mr. Yves Saint Laurent. This eternal starting over takes advantage of the increasingly rapid renewal of trends that want us to believe that wearing a cut of trousers at the wrong time would make us terribly old-fashioned. Thus, the 2020s open with the announcement of the death of skinny jeans which no longer find favor in the eyes of the younger generations (the famous Gen Z, champion of trends). Driven by nostalgia for the 2000s, baggy jeans are back with a whiff of sanctity. However, since fashion works like a pendulum, it was only a matter of seasons for skinny jeans to come back into vogue. And now the time has already come.
Skinny jeans begin their timid return to the catwalks
In fact, several designers have offered skinny jeans, such as DSquared2 for its Pre-Fall 2024 collection, as well as Acne Studios, Coperni and even Ralph Lauren for Spring-Summer 2024.

For my colleague it was enough SHE France, Juliette Lecuyer, headline: “Long derided, these jeans are about to make their big comeback this year.” So, obviously, this fitted cut creates a semblance of hype, but that’s without taking into account the multitude of other cuts also offered on the runways and in stores. While the majority still remains large, we can still expect renewed interest in skinny denim, depending on the fashion cycle.
The best denim cut in 2024? What you prefer
But the best way to know which jeans to wear today and tomorrow is to listen to yourself. If you never stopped loving skinny, good for you, you’re going from “nerdy” to “edgy” in the eyes of the fashion industry that capitalizes on accelerating trends to increasingly profit from our insecurities and desire for conformity. If you prefer baggy jeans, good for you for still being fashionable Spirit of the times. And if you don’t care about these zeitgeist stories, good for you.
How to wear skinny jeans in 2024? Contrasting the volumes
But if you can’t wait to know how the fashion industry wants to entice you to wear skinny jeans, it’s obviously by counterbalancing the volumes. Who says tight pants says voluminous tops to provide an interesting visual contrast and rebalance the proportions in the process. As for shoes, heeled sandals, hiking boots, cowboy boots, or even ballet flats (yes, it’s also the return of the BB Brunes / Plastiscines / look sleazy indie), will do the job perfectly. All that remains is to avoid wearing bulky and crushing skate sneakers to avoid looking like Bozo the Clown.
