The thigh gap trend from 2014 is back

The 2010s fashion and Tumblr girl aesthetics are back, and with them come the trends of those years. One of the latter is called legging legs (from English – “legs in leggings”). The girls wear tight tights and show off what their legs look like. More accurately, they’re checking to see if they have that coveted gap between the thighs (or thigh gap) that all teenagers of the Tumblr girl era are striving for. The #legginglegs hashtag currently has over 33 million views on TikTok.

People first started talking about thigh gaps after the Victoria’s Secret fashion show in 2012, when photos of models with gaps between their thighs circulated on weight loss forums and social networks. Around the same time, “40KG” public pages emerged, familiar to many millennials, promoting toxic underweight, extreme diets, and ultimately leading to eating disorders.

Since Zoomers and Gen Alphas couldn’t catch on to this trend, girls chasing the gap between the hips started dieting and starving en masse. Millennials have spoken out against it, calling the new trend toxic and warning that it could be a catalyst for eating disorders.

“All millennials have experienced this [ужас]. We experienced trauma [трендом на просвет между бедрами] “This is not a trend, an eating disorder is not a trend.” – One of the TikTok users commented on the videos.

Now, when someone asks to stretch their legs on TikTok, a link for a psychological help service opens, and the hashtag itself has been deleted. But the videos still continue to appear.

Let’s hope the increased interest in Tumblr girl aesthetics doesn’t lead to a new era of the extreme skinny trend and a new generation of teens with eating disorders. By the way, you can read exactly how the eating disorder occurs here.
