Jamie Dornan was hospitalized with heart attack symptoms while on holiday in Portugal. His friend Gordon Smart said the player’s condition was caused by contact with “poisonous caterpillars”.

The friends decided to go on vacation to Portugal, but the next day Gordon felt strange symptoms of heart failure and, as the son of a therapist, immediately went to the nearest medical facility. After returning to the hotel, the Scottish presenter discovered Jamie was hooked up to medical equipment. The 50 Shades of Gray star said: “Oh my God, Gordon, about 20 minutes after you left my left arm, my left leg, my right leg went numb and I found myself in the backseat of an ambulance.” Shortly afterwards, Gordon commented: “Looks like we’ve encountered hairy mocking caterpillars and we’re very lucky to have come out of that story alive.”

Golf courses in southern Portugal have been revealed to be infested with caterpillars that are killing dogs and causing heart attacks in middle-aged men. Shortly after, the doctor called Jamie and told him that his heart problems were caused by insects whose hairs contain an irritating protein called tametopoein. This ingredient can cause painful irritation to the skin, eyes and throat, and in rare cases, allergic reactions.
