Kommersant writes that cases of whooping cough have increased significantly in Russia. 3.1 thousand cases were detected in the whole of 2022, and 27.8 thousand cases were detected in just ten months of 2023.

The Doctor’s Guide service conducted a survey among Russian specialists. According to him, 24.5 percent of the participants evaluate the situation regarding whooping cough in their region as tense, and 40 percent of the participants state that there are no cases of this infection in their patients. They also explained why the incidence rate increased so much.
“The increase in whooping cough cases in Russia may be associated with the complete removal in 2023 of preventive and anti-epidemic measures previously introduced to limit the spread of COVID-19,” representatives of the Russian Ministry of Health said.
Let us remind you that whooping cough is an acute infectious disease caused by bacteria of the Bordetella genus. The disease is characterized by a prolonged and convulsive cough, damage to the respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous systems.
