Orchestra FVG

According to local publication Friuli Sera, the Italian orchestra FVG refused to play at the Rodolfo Lipizer International Violin Competition in Gorizia due to the exclusion of participants from Russia.

After the organizers of the competition sacked violinists Lidia Kocharyan, Karolina Averina and Anastasia Pentina, Gorizia mayor Rodolfo Dziberna defended the Russians. He sent a letter to the competition director asking him to reconsider the “unacceptable” decision, but was denied.

Then the musicians of the regional orchestra, who were traditionally obliged to accompany the participants, refused to play at the competition in protest of anti-Russian hostility.

– said team leader Paolo Petiziol.

In early April, the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) announced its expulsion from membership in the International Tchaikovsky Competition.
