These ten little-known keywords to remember when shopping online (and everywhere!)

Whether you’re a fan of digital flea markets or not, this advanced vocabulary list is made for you.

What is this wooden thing called? A little elongated, with a refined design, with a few doors or two-three drawers… You’re stuck, only in front of the search bar the good corner, with a specific idea in mind. But words fail you. Don’t panic, here’s a little glossary to sharpen your scouting skills and find the furniture of your dreams.

1. Filing cabinet with curtain

Ideal for dishes, documents or any mess you want to hide! Curtained filing cabinets are those cute pieces of furniture where you pull down the wooden shutters to reveal what’s hidden inside.

2. Marmalade or Parisian buffet

The two are quite similar, except that the former is slightly taller and the latter is often wider. Glass door or not, we love the CottageCore vibe it gives off.

3. Sideboard (Scandinavian or not)

Here’s the word I was looking for in my introduction, congratulations if you guessed right! The sideboard is obviously this ultra-elegant piece of furniture, full length, which looks a lot like a sideboard and can be used as a designer TV cabinet or decorative console.

4. Granulometer

Another alternative to the console, the seed box seduces with its multitude of compartments which make it an ideal container.

5. Portable lamp

This is a type of lamp without holder, for self-fixing. Styles vary, from the simple industrial light bulb and its cord, to protean glass globes.

6. Banker’s lamp

We fell in love with these vintage lamps that we find in certain libraries where it is nice to walk around (and read, yes yes).

7. Sofa bed

The ideal sofa for a nap on the go or a therapy session at home.

8. Farmhouse Table

Who has never dreamed of writing a novel facing the sea on their solid oak desk? Ok, maybe this isn’t the case for everyone, but one thing is certain: farmhouse tables fit perfectly into this utopia that helps me fall asleep every night. For others, this furniture works just as well as a dining table. Everyone has their own priorities.

9. Hardworking

This small vintage sewing furniture can be used perfectly at the end of a sofa or as a coffee table.

10. Trumeau

Lovers of the shabby-chic style (or simply chic, let’s be honest), this word is for you. If your search “Louis Philippe mirror” OR “vintage ice cream” he doesn’t give anything away, he tries his luck with this term which refers to old fireplace mirrors.
