Reports are doing the rounds of Shanghai Disneyland after a young guest was reportedly injured at the new Disneyland ZootopiaTheme ride less than a week after the official opening to the general public.
On December 25, a social media post went viral showing a child pinned under one Zootopia: Hot Chase Vehicles that drive without tracks. The child apparently grabbed an object and dropped it while exiting the ride.
Following the incident, Shanghai Disney Resort released the following statement: “Zootopia: Hot Chase is temporarily out of service until further notice. Zootopia’s other offerings, including entertainment, F&B and merchandise, will continue as usual.”
The park said it will offer a refund or exchange to guests who bought tickets before Dec. 25 and want a new date.
Following the ride’s closure, Shanghai Disney Resort reopened the ride and its official website states: “Zootopia: Hot Chase will resume work this morning. All guests are expected to adhere to the resort’s operating guidelines when experiencing the attraction.”
Zootopia: Hot Chase is part of a themed area at Shanghai Disneyland dedicated to the 2016 animated film Zootopia. According to the park’s website, the ride invites you to take part in a wild police chase in one of Officer Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde’s patrol cars!” They slide across the ice of Tundratown, search for refugees and weave their way through the streets of Sahara Square the Rainforest District, all looking for Bellwether and her gang to track down Gazelle. It’s an exciting chase that could only exist in Zootopia!”
