First edition of Harry Potter sold at auction

Recently, an auction was held in England where a copy of the first edition of the book “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” written by JK Rowling was sold. According to the Derbyshire Times, it slept in a cupboard under the stairs (just like the main character!) for nearly 26 years.

The cost of the book was estimated at 55.1 thousand pounds sterling (about 6.2 million rubles) at Hanson’s Auctioneers on December 11. Meanwhile, it was long in the care of the 58-year-old Derbyshire resident, who bought it during a family trip in 1997. The book was on the store’s children’s shelf and was only £10. Who would have thought that a study could be a way to invest?

“I bought a book about Harry Potter at a time when no one really knew him or his author. We were traveling in a caravan in the Scottish Highlands. There was a cafe there; a bookshop at the end of the road, on a remote peninsula,” the woman shared. She also revealed the secret that she managed to haggle with the salesman and get it for just eight pounds because it didn’t have a dust jacket.
