Dior celebrates Mexican textile traditions through a fascinating documentary

More than a source of inspiration, Mexico was the heart of textile know-how and also the workforce of the Dior Cruise 2024 fashion show, imagined by its artistic director of the women’s collections, Maria Grazia Chiuri. She illustrates it with respect, sensitivity and a lot of passion in a one-hour documentary, available for free on the house’s YouTube channel.

During her Dior Cruise 2024 fashion show presented in May 2023, artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted to pay homage to Mexico, its know-how, the historical figure of Frida Kahlo, the contemporary artist Elina Chauvet, but also to feminicides. Now the house on Avenue Montaigne has unveiled a nearly hour-long documentary behind the scenes of the creation of this collection, available for free on the house’s YouTube channel.

Titled “Dior Metamorphosis,” this video highlights Maria Grazia Chiuri’s inspirations, particularly the work of Frida Kahlo. And to pay homage to her, the designer chose to collaborate with regional artisans to create the 92 looks of her collection presented at the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, considered the cradle of the Mexican muralism movement.
