Squid game: the challenge seems to have been launched in the UK with great success.
The debut episode of the Netflix reality show attracted nearly 2 million viewers after five days, according to official Barb ratings from overnachtingen.tv.
The season premiere was the most streamed show in the UK on major video-on-demand platforms, excluding Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+.
Four more episodes of Squid game: the challenge also garnered more than 1 million viewers. The series’ second episode came closest to the first episode’s performance, with nearly 1.7 million viewers.
As Deadline first revealed, Netflix is coming out Squid game: the challenge in several episodes. A four-episode second season will be released on November 29, while the finale will air on December 6.
UK streaming figures mirror data from America. According to Samba TV, the premiere episode attracted an audience of approximately 1.1 million US households in the first five days of its release.
Produced by British companies Studio Lambert and The Garden, Squid game: the challenge is based on the Korean drama by Hwang Dong-hyuk.
Two contestants told Deadline last week that the show was so faithfully recreated that it felt like stepping onto the screen. “It definitely exceeded my expectations because the set was so realistic,” said Lorenzo Nobilio (player 161). “It was an absolutely immersive experience … you really feel like you’re really going to die.”
