“The Boy’s Word” style: How do the heroes of autumn’s most sensational series dress?

If you watch the movies “Brother” and “Brother-2” several times a year and remember all the iconic moments of “The Brigade” by heart, you will definitely like the new Wink and Start series “The Boy’s Word”. The action takes place in Kazan in the 1980s. At that time, the city was ruled by gangs consisting mostly of young people. By the mid-1980s there were so many groups that the so-called Kazan phenomenon appeared in the history of the city.

The plot of “A Child’s Words” follows a 14-year-old boy named Andrei. First he meets a member of one of the gangs, then he joins the gang. The series draws you in from the first minute. And it’s not only about the unexpected plot and talented cast (Ivan Yankovsky, Sergei Burunov, Nikita Kologrivy and Yulia Peresild’s daughter Anna played in the sensational project), but also about the style of the main characters.

Marat is the exact opposite of Andrei. It’s hard to imagine the most attractive hooligan of the series wearing the same classic coat or fur hat. He even wears his school uniform in his own style, which gives him an air of teenage rebellion. That’s why the most important thing in Marat’s wardrobe is a red sweatshirt with a zipper. The kind every teenager in the late 1980s dreamed of.

The brimmed and geometric patterned hat is rightfully the most recognizable piece of the series. All members of the group wear them, including Andrey. This outfit clearly shows the viewer who is inside and who is outside. It also helps to follow the main character’s transformation.

What would you first think if someone asked you to name the most famous sweater in the movie? We are almost sure that this will be Danila Bagrov’s sweater from the movie “Brother”. Costume designer Nadezhda Vasilyeva found the iconic item at a flea market and reportedly bought it for just 35 rubles. It seems that the sweater of the on-screen character Sergei Bodrov has a rival. In the series “The Boy’s Promise” the hero Ivan Yankovsky wears a dark green sweater with a recognizable pattern. The main “trick” of this wardrobe item is that almost all Soviet citizens had similar models.
