British actress Eleanor Tomlinson explained in detail why she decided not to film sex scenes by default, with some completely justified exceptions.
The star of the BBC drama Poldarkand an upcoming Channel 4 drama The neighbor couple about the intimate exchange of partners The times According to the newspaper, during a specific sex scene in the latter film, she was convinced that nudity on screen would detract from the story.
She said:
“I’ve done nude photos before, but for me it depends on the project and how necessary I find it. And I didn’t feel like that was the case. I mean, there was a conversation where they pushed it, and the harder they pushed it, the more I wanted to say, “No, you’re just not being creative here.” There are so many more interesting possibilities to show that.” A lot of it depends on the chemistry between the actors and the collaboration with the intimacy coordinators…
“You don’t have to show everything because it ends up disrupting everyone’s concentration. They just saw something and are no longer really involved in the scene. I think because [the show] It is so clearly about sexual exploration that it would have been an obvious choice to show nudity in it. I actually think it becomes more interesting if you don’t have it.
Tomlinson added that it is necessary, especially for young actresses, to think long-term when considering acting in such scenes:
“There’s an element of self-preservation in that, because you give in to a snap and pause, and then the photos end up online and stay there forever. So this is something very serious that you have to decide. I think if you have the confidence as an actor or actress to do that, that’s great. And it’s not that I lack confidence; For me it just has to be character driven.
