Los Angeles Mayor’s Race: ICM Partners, Politico to host Homelessness Candidate Forum

Representative Karen Bass (D-CA) and council member Kevin de Leon will attend the Los Angeles Mayor Candidates Forum at ICM Partners on Tuesday, focusing on the race’s biggest problem: homelessness.

The event, titled Homelessness Settlement and sponsored by Politico and ICM Partners, will also feature Alfre Woodard. Just two weeks into the mayor primary, polls show a tense battle between Bass and developer Rick Caruso. A spokesperson for ICM Partners said Caruso, who covered the Los Angeles airwaves with ads focusing on the homelessness crisis, was invited but declined citing a scheduling conflict.

In a March debate, Bass said he would appoint a person responsible for resolving the homelessness crisis and that person would be accountable to him. He also talked about the plan to host 15,000 people in the first year. De León highlighted his experience in solving the problem in his district and cites what, according to him, is the largest “cottage” city in the country.

The race changed in the past few weeks as board member Joe Buscaino came out and approved Caruso, while Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Foyer failed and approved Bass.

Politico will be moderated by Jeremy B. White at the event, which will be broadcast live Here It Starts at 4:00 PM PT. ICM Politics was launched in 2017 and has recently hosted events such as the Reproductive Rights Conference, which was attended by New York Attorney General Leticia James. Travis Mervezer recently replaced Hannah Linkenhacker as the head of the political unit.
