Agree, the most unpleasant thing you can imagine is throwing expired food out of the refrigerator. Especially if this happened after you vowed to eat at home to avoid spending extra money on food.
However, do not rush to do general cleaning of the refrigerator. It turns out that some foods can be eaten even after their expiration date. We are talking about them.

Milk. In general, the shelf life of milk depends on the processing method. For example, pasteurized milk can be stored for up to five days from the expiry date on the packaging. However, sterilized and ultra-pasteurized milk can be stored for six months. But even after a month or two after the expiration date, this product does not lose its quality.
Bread. Even though bread becomes stale after its expiration date, it can still be eaten. The important thing is to make sure that the expired product does not start to mold. Mold is the main signal that bread should be thrown away.
Sauces. Since all sauces contain salt, sugar, vinegar and are themselves considered preservatives, they can be stored for a while without compromising taste and health. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to six months after the expiration date.
Pasta. Pasta without egg can be stored for up to two to three years.
Yogurt. After the expiration date has passed, a closed product can remain in the refrigerator for another three weeks, and an opened product can remain in the refrigerator for another week. If you freeze yoghurt, it will be edible two months after the date indicated on the product.
