Taylor Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” Makes Big, Big, Big Sales Debut

Taylor Swift just had a week where the biggest news wasn’t Travis Kelce.

She continues to expand her billion dollar empire, Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s version) debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Top Album Sales, Vinyl Albums and Top Streaming Albums this week. A somewhat breathless release from Swift’s Republic Records reported sales of over 1.6 million copies in the United States and over 3.5 million worldwide.

Notably, this feat makes her the “first artist in history to achieve six No. 1 album debuts with more than 1 million copies sold,” Republic claims.

1989 (Taylor’s version) surpassing the first week of sales in 2014 of the original version of 1989. Each remastered version of the albums has eclipsed the sales of its predecessors and continues to grow with each successive release.

On Spotify, 1989 (Taylor’s version) is the “biggest album debut on Spotify in 2023” and “the second biggest album debut in Spotify history” with 176 million streams – behind only their own Midnight.

She extended her record of “Most #1 US iTunes Hits Among All Artists” on Apple Music and iTunes.

Internationally, it is number 1 in 14 countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
