A24 is developing TikTok-famous “Magnolia Parks” novels into TV series

EXCLUSIVE: euphoria Producer A24 has tapped a series of self-published, TikTok-famous novels from the UK for its latest project, Deadline has learned.

The independent studio has acquired the rights to Jessa Hastings’ film Magnolia Parks Universe books that went viral on TikTok and are described as gossip girl in London high society.

The Magnolia Parks The project is seen as a sensible path to development with A24 close to signing partnerships for the series. The company declined to comment.

In keeping with A24’s zeitgeist, the first novel tells the story of beautiful but neurotic London socialite Magnolia Parks and BJ Ballentine, the tough lothario who broke her heart.

Hastings’ second book, Daisy Haitesexpands Magnolia’s world by following Londoner “It Girl” Haites, the heir to a criminal empire desperate for a normal life.

The third and fourth books return to the perspectives of Parks and Haites respectively. They have the title Magnolia Parks: the long way home And Daisy Haites: The Great Downfall.

The Magnolia Parks The hashtag has more than 68 million views on TikTok, with dozens of young women posting videos expressing their love for the series. #JessaHastings still has 27 million views.

Hastings, who was born in Australia and now splits her time between London and Southern California, retained film and television rights last year as part of the books’ publishing deals.

She reached out to A24’s UK team, co-led by Piers Wenger, the former BBC drama director who has overseen, among other things, ground-breaking hits Normal people And I can destroy you. Former BBC film director Rose Garnett works with Wenger.

Other TV projects on A24’s UK slate include an adaptation of Douglas Stuart’s 2020 Booker Prize-winning novel Shuggie Bain, which was set up at the BBC. This is also an adaptation by Yomi Adegokes The list for the BBC and Max.

British publisher Orion Fiction owns worldwide rights to Hastings’ books, while Bloom Books owns US rights.
