Madeley questioned Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran on October 17, asking: “Given your family ties in Gaza, did you have any indication of what was going to happen ten days ago, two weeks ago? Was anything heard on the street?”
Moran replied: “Not that, not that. I think everybody is … everybody is surprised, to begin with, partly by the timing and the sophistication [and] how it happened.”

After a clip of the interview went viral, Madeley apologized if his questioning of Moran “upset viewers.” “His intention was to understand the mood and atmosphere among Gaza’s civilian population shortly before the attacks,” a spokesman said. Good morning Britain said the speaker. “He did not mean to imply that she or her family knew about the attacks in advance.”
Moran later said she accepted the apology. “I think my face looked quite stunned at the time,” she told Sky News. “The entire conversation during the 15-minute interview was important. We looked at how we got here and where we were going. I didn’t and don’t have the feeling that it was born out of malice. I honestly think it comes from ignorance.”
