Revealed at 4pm with Eurovision
Born on October 9, 1947, France Gall (real name Isabelle Geneviève Marie Anne Gall) was immersed in the world of music from a very young age, being the daughter of French singer-songwriter Robert Gall.
His musical career began at the age of 17 years winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965. You played the timeless “Wax Doll, Sound Doll”, written by Serge Gainsbourg. She is with its oxygenated weight and its youthful air that the singer revealed herself to the general public.
The “lollipop” episode and Gainsbourg’s shadow
In her mini online comic, illustrator Cécile Cée tells how the singer then took advantage of the young rising star’s candor, composing “Les Sucettes” for her in 1967.
He had encouraged her to perform it on television, while France Gall was convinced that the title referred to the sweets she had bought during her childhood in Normandy. “And then I found out there was something about it, it was horrible, horrible! She changed my relationship with guys”she says Parisian.
A busy icon
Over the years, France Gall has built a repertoire of titles of which we cannot say which is the most cult “She’s got it”, “Charlemagne crowned”, Passing through “Babacar” OR “It resists”. He has collaborated with renowned lyricists and composers, starting with Michel Berger, with whom he formed a duo on a professional and personal level. Their collaboration gave birth to iconic titles such as “She’s got it” AND “It resists”.
France Gall’s artistic sensitivity is also echoed in her social commitment. Involved in numerous humanitarian trips, the star went in particular to Senegal where she financed the studies of a boy, hence the title Babacar.
A return in 2015 for the musical resists
Despite all the light emanating from France Gall, a series of tragedies marked the end of her life. In 1992 Michel Berger died of a heart attack. A few years later, his daughter Pauline died of cystic fibrosis. “When Michel died, I wanted to continue singing. When Pauline disappeared, I wanted to keep quiet.”he has declared Paris match in 2012.
After stopping performing, the artist returned to the stage musical comedy It resists which paid homage to the songs of Michel Berger. The show toured to large venues across France between 2015 and 2016.
We can only rejoice that the search engine has chosen to dedicate October 9th to him a female icon who continues to delight and inspire us.
