With the fashion industry moving ever faster, the Mugler x H&M collaboration almost seems like ancient history (even though it only dates back to last May). In the meantime, the Swedish fast fashion giant has already had time to work on the next one, this time with the Rabanne maison, artistically directed by Julien Dossena, and it’s for this autumn-winter.

What will the Rabanne x H&M collaboration be like?
“ Rabanne H&M flirts with fantasy, dances through the decades and dreams of the future. Combining the carefree exuberance of the 1970s, Rabanne’s optimistic futurism and a touch of retro romanticism, the collection conveys a modern vision of opulence, joy and accessible confidence. », we read in the H&M press release to announce this new collaboration. Of course we can expect to find wire mesh and plastic to make tops, dresses, scarves and bags. More even more surprising pieces are coming: “ a layered chiffon maxi dress embellished with crystals, a crisp poplin button-up with broderie anglaise details and oversized pleated sleeves, a rich floral jacquard cutout dress, structured wool outerwear, gracefully draped statement statement pieces in jersey and numerous leopard prints. »

Even more surprising, this collaboration will be an opportunity for Rabanne and his artistic director Julien Dossena to try their hand at an in-house collection. : “This is Rabanne’s first time designing for the home and represents the most comprehensive interior offering ever introduced in a collaboration with H&M designers. It features accent furniture, a shiny disc curtain, tilted vases, playing cards and dice, a water bottle and more, all with Rabanne’s signature sparkle. »
Who is Julien Dossena, the artistic director of Rabanne?
During his lifetime, the trained architect Francisco Rabaneda y Cuervo (1934-2023), created the house that bears his French nickname and impressed with his clothes made with assemblages of unlikely fashionable materials such as metal and plastic, revolutionizing the textile panorama of the 60s and 70s. After the fashion artisan retired from the catwalks in 1999, he was succeeded by several designers, including today Julien Dossena, popular in Rabanne since 2013. The forty-year-old Breton was trained in applied arts by Duperré in Paris and at the school of Belgian fashion La Cambre, before cutting his teeth at Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquière from 2008 to 2012, who he left to found his own brand Atto. But he barely had time to cast it before he was enlisted to revive Rabanne. In ten years of maximalist wearable sculptures, both medieval and futuristic, he has had time to show us what metal he uses, and he will also be able to democratize his vision of it during this merger with H&M. An eagerly awaited league, the timing of which will help it shine ahead of the end-of-year holidays.
The collaboration with Rabanne H&M (as well as Rabanne H&M HOME) will be released on November 9th on the H&M website and in a selection of physical stores.
