During all of this fashion month, activists from the Peta association (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) stormed marches in New York, London and Milan to promote a campaign against the exploitation of animals. It was therefore quite obvious that this also happened in Paris, where the podiums are even more publicized. But what is most surprising is the choice of the activist: Jérémy Gisclon, alias Jeremstar.
Jeremstar, arrested by the police in front of Louis Vuitton while shouting: “No to animal suffering for the love of fashion”
The 36-year-old journalist and celebrity influencer actually tried to infiltrate, dressed as a freshly dismembered snake, the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2024 show on October 2, 2023 in Paris. Except he was intercepted before he could access it, as Peta tweeted:
We see Jeremstar removed by the police from the Louis Vuitton boutique on the Champs Élysées where the fashion show was held (under the guidance of artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière). We even hear Jérémy Gisclon shout: “ No to animal suffering for fashion. »
Why was Jeremstar dressed as a snake? Denounce the suffering caused by the use of exotic skins in luxury
If Jeremstar had dressed as a snake it was to more specifically denounce the use of exotic skins. An investigation by Peta Asia, published in December 2021, reported alarming facts about a python supplier for the luxury group owned by Bernard Arnault, with a shocking video to back it up:
“Investigators visited two Indonesian slaughterhouses that supply LVMH – which owns Louis Vuitton, Dior, Celine and other fashion brands – and saw workers hitting snakes on the head with hammers, hanging them in the air, inflating them with water and stripping them of skin – probably while they were still conscious. »
Jeremstar: “These animals are hung alive, dismembered, inflated with water and air to make whore purses”
Obviously, the same evening of his arrest, Jeremstar explained it on the set of the show Touche pas à mon poste:
“In fact, it was a stain on the brand’s image, and the police quickly intervened and arrested me in a way that caused quite a stir on social networks. There are those who dreamed of seeing me in prison, but in reality this is not yet the case. They told me that they agreed with me, the policemen were admirable, it is true that they often get beaten up, but for the moment the fight was completely understood, and they also told me that they had made it clear that I had the right to do it again. There was no crime, there was no police stop, there was only an identity check because I didn’t have any identity document with me.
[…] Obviously us [Peta] he makes things work and get people talking. I was happy to be arrested, but it was absolutely not planned, because in all the actions I carried out there was never an arrest. Usually the police arrive and ask to stop. Obviously, when it happened to me, my little problem was nothing compared to these animals that are hung alive, dismembered, inflated with water and air to make whore’s purses. »
