Los Angeles Daily Covid Cases, Highest Point of Summer 2021 Increase as Hospitalizations Start to Increase Significantly

Los Angeles today surpassed the number of daily Covid cases it saw during the summer of 2021 growth, according to data released by authorities.

The country file shows that 4,248 new cases were registered in the region on August 9, 2021, which was at the peak of the wave as a result of the Delta variant. Today, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced that 4,384 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours.

The delta version is more viral than the original version of the virus and in any case hospitalizes more people. Partly due to the BA.2.12.1 subtype of Omicron, one of the promising signs of the recent increase in cases is the absence of a significant increase in hospitalizations. This has now changed.

Although the number of cases increased by around 50% at the end of April this year, the number of daily hospitalizations due to covid was around 250 in the country. In fact, hospitalizations have increased in places like New York where BA.2.12.1 has spread and where BA is found. 2.12.1 More rapid spread as local officials cite stability of the Los Angeles health system as cause for optimism.

When journalists were asked last week the difference between hospitalizations in coastal metropolises, Barbara Ferrer, Regional Director of Public Health, cited a number of factors, including the gap between infection and illness and the protective nature of vaccines. She noted that the incidence rate was lower in the elderly, who had much higher vaccination rates in Los Angeles County.

However, about a week ago, she started her daily hospitalization in Los Angeles. Last Thursday, they rose from 252 this Monday to 312 positive for the virus in nationwide hospitals. On Tuesday, that number was 327. Today the number is 363. While the numbers are still relatively small, that’s a 44% increase in one week.

The number of COVID patients treated in intensive care rose from 44 to 55 on Tuesday.

The average daily rate of people testing positive for the virus, albeit still relatively low, rose to 3.2% on Wednesday and 2.6% on Tuesday.

The increasing pressure on the healthcare system was a major event noted by the authorities. BA.2.12.1 is thought to have a higher growth factor than the Delta variant, but is also thought to be less viral. That belief gave local officials hope even as New York hospitals grew increasingly tense.

Because if a large number of cases are large enough, it can still lead to overcrowding in hospitals. In fact, last winter’s original Omicron was less viral than Delta, but still caused twice as many hospitalizations. See the diagram on the left.

And BA.2.12.1, which was released in Los Angeles last week, Ferrer said made up only 12% of the string of positive test samples. This is from 8% consistent positive samples a week ago. But he also acknowledged that for at least a month, the country fell short of a 5% rank target of all positive tests. Due to the reduction in Covid aid from state and federal governments, the country had only a 3% positive sample series, meaning there could be a significant blind spot in options in the region.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Reported Yesterday In a three-state region of California, Arizona, and Nevada, 36% of all positive tests were related to BA.2.12.1. It was 28% last week. This is still low compared to BA.2.12.1’s 73% share of the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut counties.

“I’m not sure we’ll get another summer raise,” Ferrer said last week, adding: “I hope so.” He said the proven increase in cases should lead to a corresponding increase in hospitalizations as it has been called what the country is experiencing new growth. Looks like we could be there now.
