A Rail Pass for cheaper train tickets could be implemented as early as next summer

This pass would allow the French to take an unlimited number of intercity and TER trains, for a fixed monthly price.

No more expensive train tickets in the summer? This Thursday, September 7, the Minister of Transport Clement Beaune clarified the contours of the new Railway passport. Inspired by the “Deutschlandticket”, a rail pass launched in Germany in May 2023, this ticket would allow you to take TER and intercity trains unlimited for a fixed price.

49 euros per month

“It will be a single price, not expensive”announced the minister, with estimated costs ” around 49 euros per month “. This price will be discussed, starting from September, “with the presidents of the regions, of the big cities and the mayors of the big cities”, he announced again. Its implementation could be effective from next summer.

Clément Beaune also wants this pass to work “ even with the buses, subways and trams of our big cities”.

But he also returned to the price of the TGV, which he takes into account ” too expensive for many families »and announced that it had entered into negotiations with the SNCF to freeze costs. It also wants to develop the Ouigo offer, whose prices are already attractive.
