A miracle cure? According to BFM TV, a new preventive treatment against childhood bronchiolitis will be developed this year, based on the results of several studies.
This treatment, the beyfortus, will be available from mid-September in healthcare facilities and, upon order, in pharmacies. It can also be administered in the city, in general medicine clinics, in paediatrics or even in health centres. 200,000 doses will be delivered this year.

It is incorporated in children from a single injection, in the muscle. In some cases, this injection can also be given from birth, being strongly recommended before leaving the maternity ward. However, opinions of healthcare professionals remain divided regarding the efficacy of Beyfortus, which is being estimated between 80% and 85% in severe bronchiolitis.
In France, bronchiolitis is estimated to affect almost 30% of children under two each winter, i.e. about 480,000 cases a year. And 2-3% of children under one year of age are hospitalized with severe bronchiolitis.
