When it was released in 2022, House of the Dragon marked the history of HBO: with 9.9 million viewers, its pilot is the most watched in the channel’s history. Something to reassure the latter, which he ordered a second season from episode 2.
Despite the Hollywood industry strike, this season is going well and has its share of surprises in store. While we would have expected the number of episodes to be lengthened to multiply the series’ encounters with its audience, we learned from one of the directors that this season will be shorter than the previous one.
Packaged episodes.
In mid-August, director Clare Kilner, to whom we owe three episodes of the first season, was invited by Hollywood Reporters to provide details on the second season of the prequel From game of Thrones. The director revealed which would only have 8 episodes instead of 10explaining:
“There are eight wonderful episodes and there is so much to do in each episode. It’s also difficult at times to do so make them last less than an hour. Ryan [Condal, le showrunner, ndlr] he decided to focus on a great start and a great finish to the season. And in between are the episodes chock full of heartwarming and visually exciting events. »
The length of the episodes shouldn’t disorient viewers of season 1: each episode already lasted between 54 minutes and 1h08.
On the other hand, this news will undoubtedly remind us very bad memories to fans of game of Thronessome of which have not recovered from the last season. As a reminder, the latter only lasted six episodes instead of the previous seasons ten (except for the seventh).
Unfortunately, many viewers saw in this shorter format rushed storytelling and streamlined characters to the extreme. I hope season 2 of House of the Dragon whose release date is not yet known, will not suffer the same fate!
