Recall that on March 21, the activities of Instagram and Facebook, owned by Meta, were recognized by Roskomnadzor and the Prosecutor General’s Office as extremist and banned in Russia. This came in response to the publication of an internal letter stating that the company has temporarily lifted the ban on its social networks for residents of a number of countries to post information containing calls for violence against Russian citizens, including military personnel. Later, a representative of Meta explained that this call concerns the military and that they aim to limit such actions against ordinary Russian citizens. As a result, Facebook has been blocked in Russia since March 4 and Instagram since March 14.
