Whether it’s saving time or simply not skipping the sunscreen step… Day creams with UV filters have enjoyed great commercial success. But do they work as well as we seem to believe? According to the magazine 60 million consumers, It seems like no. And here’s why.
A dose of sunscreen too small to be effective
In order for the UV filter to show its effectiveness, a fairly large dose of day cream must be applied. On average, 2 mg per square centimeter of skin is recommended to cover all the needs of the epidermis. This dose is quite high and can create heaviness, discomfort and shine.
If you apply the same cream day and night, 60 million consumers warns:
“Day creams often contain several filters, some of which are suspected of being endocrine disruptors (ethylhexyl salicylate, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, homosalate). Being exposed to it day and night poses a risk without any benefit. Might as well do without it! »
Also, some sunscreens can be occlusive. It is therefore not recommended to use them at nightwhen cell renewal is optimal.

Renewal not always respected
A sunscreen must be renewed every two hours to adequately protect the skin from the aggressions of the sun’s rays. A rule that must be respected regardless of the format of the sunscreen applied to the skin. However, SPF cream is often used in the morning and can also be used in the evening. Result? The epidermis spends an entire day without being protected from UVA and UVB rays…
But then what to do?
If you are a fan of day creams with SPF (it must be admitted that they are still very practical), you can use them without problems by respecting the recommended doses and integrating their effects with a sunscreen to be applied every two hours. This way you will be adequately protected throughout the day.
In the evening, on the other hand, bet on an overnight treatment without sunscreen which will be much more effective in boosting the skin’s natural mechanisms while you sleep.
