The summer holidays have just started, that we already have to think about the beginning of the school year. Expected by many families, the back-to-school allowance (ARS) will be paid on August 16 in France, as well as in most overseas departments, the Ministry of Solidarity announced on Tuesday July 11.
But in Réunion and Mayotte, where the start of the school year takes place on 17 and 23 August respectively, the payment of the allowance will take place on 1 August.
Increased amounts in Mayotte
The amounts have been increased by 5.6% compared to the premium paid in the summer of 2022. This year the amount of the ARS ranges from 398.09 to 434.61 euros, depending on the age of the child. 398.09 EUR for children aged 6 to 10, €420.05 for 11 to 14 year olds, e €434.61 for teenagers aged 15 to 18. In Mayotte, where the cost of living is much higher than in France, these amounts have increased by approx two euros.
It is used in particular to pay for school supplies for children, as part of the back-to-school period. This assignment will be affected by approx three million familiesor five million children aged 6 to 18, who attend school or study in a public or private institution, the ministry said.
However, this aid is subject to a resource cap, ie 25,775 euros per year per dependent child, plus €5,948 for each additional dependent child.
