Do we still have to introduce Anna Roy? Midwife, author, commentator and activist, she is known and recognized in the world of pregnancy and parenting as a reference.
Often, in his books and on his Instagram account, he shares his thoughts, his rantings, his experiences. This time, as often, she managed to move us to tears, telling us about a situation reported to her by a woman we met on the subway one morning.
Maternal suicide, this taboo
Here is the post in question:

Yes, it hurts, right?
Maternal suicide, second cause of maternal mortality in France
Maternal suicide is, as Anna Roy rightly says, a taboo within a taboo.
Between 2013 and 2015, at least 35 women committed suicide during pregnancy or the first year of their child’s life (which corresponds to the period studied in the Public Health France report) and 36 women died of cardiovascular disease.
So out of hundreds of thousands of births, this figure of 35 may seem tiny, but that’s 35 deaths too many, especially as the report finds, in the case of suicides, that more than 9 out of 10 were preventable.
If you feel worried you can, as Anna Roy reminds us, go to the emergency room, whatever they are. Don’t hesitate to ask for helpto your family, friends and healthcare professionals. You can also call 3114, the national suicide prevention number.
