Ten French women and 25 children are repatriated from jihadist prison camps in Syria

After having had a “case by case” policy for years, France has changed course, and continues its massive repatriation of French women and children who left for Syria.

On Tuesday 4 July, France proceeded with the repatriation of ten wives and 25 children who were held in jihadist prison camps in northeastern Syria, theFrench media agency. These women had gone there voluntarily and were later caught when the Islamic State fell in 2019.

Children entrusted to childcare

These French nationals lived in the Al-Hol and Roj camps. Kurdish-controlled camps, where violence is endemic and deprivation abounds. And rightly so Antonio Guterres, secretary general of the UN, had described them as ” worst fields in the world“.

If minors are placed in childcare services, adults will be “rissued to the competent judicial authorities The Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Already the fourth repatriation in a year

This is the fourth repatriation of French women and children repentant of the Islamic State.

In total, 16 women and 35 children were thus brought back to France during a first collective operation a year ago, followed in October by the return of 15 women and 40 children.

Last January, France then announced the repatriation of 15 women and 32 children, thus ending its “case by case” policy. Because a few days before there had been France condemned by the United Nations Committee against Torture, for the piecemeal repatriation of French nationals.
