It will (without a doubt) be the film of the summer, and filming it hasn’t been easy. To complete the long-awaited film Barbiedirector Greta Gervig had to manage some small crises.
Known for her feminist commitment, the director was therefore closely observed by Mattel, the company that created the doll in 1959. In fact, she was observed by the company’s CEO, Richard Dickson himself, the latter too preoccupied with the image of his star doll.

A too “dull” scene with the doll
In a long interview with the magazine Timethe screenwriter revealed how the Mattel boss wanted to interfere in the writing of the film.
As long as you want to incorporate on the set: ” [Il] said he flew to the London set to argue with Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie about one scene in particular, which he felt disagreed too much with the doll’.
While it’s impossible to know which scene there was disagreement about, it is known that Mattel’s top management was afraid to see the distorted, even tarnished image of their star doll. In the end, Margot Robbie AND Greta Gervig have won. They even had to replay the scene live on set to convince Richard Dickinson.
