Talking about money is still taboo in France. Still, it’s a fascinating topic… and feminist, in some respects! In Settlement of accounts, people of all kinds check their budget, tell us about their financial organization as a couple or alone, and their relationship with money. Today it is Palin who has agreed to analyze her accounts for us.

Palin’s situation and income
Palin is social worker with permanent contract in an association that acts in favor of homeless people. With his fiancée and his 9-year-old son, he lives in Orléans, in a one-bedroom apartment of 54m22 of which she is a tenant.
“I host my girlfriend with whom I have a so-called ‘free’ relationship. Our 9 year old son lives full time with us. He studies at home. »

For her work as a 35-hour-a-week social worker, Palin receives a monthly salary of €1,950. To this income is added 520 euros of housing allowance, school allowance for disabled children and activity bonus. Or, to live at 3, €2,470 per monthbecause your partner is not working at the moment.
As for the salary she receives at the end of each month, Palin considers herself “well paid”especially since he received the Ségur bonus (€183 net per month).
“By comparison, I made €1,250 5 years ago when I worked in a hospital setting for 37h50 a week. »

Palin’s relationship with money and his financial organization
Palin acknowledges that her mother is a “big spender” who has always had big overdrafts. But her thirty-year-old not being close to her, he believes she hasn’t affected her relationship with her money.
It acknowledges, however, a “very free relationship with money”.
“I am often exposed. Especially if unexpected purchases are added to the budget or forgotten checks are charged. I am careless and therefore often have surprises. »
As for the financial organization that the young woman has set up with her partner, it’s simple: both have separate checking accounts AND expenses are taken from Palin’s account.
“My girlfriend doesn’t have a job. She from time to time she participates in the purchases. »
Palin’s expenses
Palin’s biggest expense is accommodation: he pays a month’s rent for his apartment in Orléans 680 € rentof which €30 expenses.
Then comes the repayment of the credits: €150 in credit contracted for an operationof which 2 years remain to be paid, and, until April, 100 euros for various consumer loans.
Current bills then eat into Palin’s budget €210 : €110 for EDF and GDF, €100 for an Internet subscription, two phone packages and subscription to various game videos.
The mother also pays €90 per month for health insurance and home insurance, as well €10 bank charges. Public transport (train, bus) costs him/her €100 per month.
“I spend a lot of money monitoring my child’s education”
To eat 3 for a month, Palin figures that comes down to her around €400restaurants included.
“I only shop in supermarkets because I don’t have a car, so I have them delivered to my home. I also pick up baskets of organic vegetables and eggs every week and sometimes shop at the local shops, market and bakery. »

Palin keeping track of her child’s home schooling also costs her money: on average €50 per month. She spends approx €100 a month for books, clothes (including sports equipment) and accessories.
“I also spend money on my son’s travel expenses when he goes to his grandparents (500 euros rounded off in the year), and on accommodation when I go there with him (300 euros). »
Palin, not wanting to be equated to the term “feminine expenses”, prefers to talk about expenses related to the maintenance of the body, which she estimates at around €100 per month. This includes clothing, care and hair removal products. It has no period-related expenses because it uses washable pads purchased several years ago.
“I don’t need contraception because my girlfriend is a trans woman who had surgery (orchiectomy) and I don’t have sex with other people. »
Finally, for the 10 gerbils that live under the same roof as her family, Palin spends a substantial sum.
“The gerbils cost us a lot in the beginning (almost 1,000 euros) because we invested in quality tailored habitats, in accordance with our desire to offer them the best possible place to live. They are currently found in 4 different habitats and still cost us €150 a month for food, accessories and litter in very large quantities. »
Palin’s hobbies
Palin’s hobbies are mostly her son’s and cost her a significant amount of money each month: around €300 a month. This includes figure skating lessons (€300 per year, paid in 3 instalments), sea sailing courses (€300 per year, paid in 2 instalments) and a minimum of two weeks of summer camp.
“It costs us between 500 and 700 euros a week before the deduction of the aid to the CAF, which helps up to 30 euros a day for up to 15 days a year. »
Palin’s savings and future plans
At the end of the month, after all of her living expenses have been paid, she stays at Palin around €200which he uses for his vacation plans, important weekend purchases (PCs, mattresses, various furniture, etc.) or family outings (museums, exhibitions, etc.).
Palin’s son and his partner have a pamphlet 1, on which he has €1,500 in savings. “His grandparents also regularly give him money for Christmas and birthdays. »
In the future, Palin wishes she could grow professionally.
“I’d like to get a diploma to become a manager to earn more and change my surroundings in 4 or 5 years, to get closer to Paris. »
