Domestic violence: rugby player Mohamed Haouas in custody

This Tuesday, May 30, the rugby player Mohamed Haouas is being tried in an immediate hearing before the criminal court of Montpellier for assaulting his wife on the public street.

He is to be heard in the Montpellier court this Tuesday 30 May. Mohamed Haouas, pillar of the French rugby XV, has been in custody since Sunday 28 May, after assaulting his wife and the mother of his two children in front of several witnesses. He faces up to three years in prison for domestic violence.

Crime story

According to several witnesses, the athlete from Montpellier, of massive build (1.85 m for 123 kilos), allegedly hit his wife with a brush in front of the shopping center where she works, and then hit her in the face while she was lying on the floor. So “He returned with her, forcing her to follow him”, according to a source interviewed by AFP. The scene, which therefore took place in the middle of the street, was captured by CCTV cameras. His wife did not press charges.

It’s not the first time the rugby player has sat in the dock: last February he was sentenced to 18 months in prison with suspended sentence for participating in burglaries in 2014, before becoming a professional sportsman. Two months later, on May 12, he was tried a second time, with 5 friends, for ” aggravated violence » AND “destruction of other people’s property committed in a meeting”following a particularly violent brawl, also dating back to 2014. Evocative “youthful mistakes”the rugby player had declared that he would do anything “Never go back to court”. Obviously it won’t last long.

“Exemplary behavior”

On Twitter, the club said it was ready to act: “Montpellier Hérault Rugby would like to remind you that it condemns all acts of violence of any kind and expects exemplary behavior from its employees. The club’s management, which will not comment further, is still awaiting judicial decisions and will then determine the follow-up to be given to this case..

He will be tried in an immediate hearing at 1.30pm.
