Following the news last month that Courtney Holt is leaving Spotify, the company has taken several steps in its executive structure as it continues to expand into creator-centric podcasts and content.

Bill Simmons will continue to direct The Ringer, a publication he founded and sold to Spotify in 2020, but he will also be the head of global sports content and CEO of The Ringer. In his new role, he will lead a global sports strategy that aims to build on the progress of sport in the United States.

Simmons will report to Julie McNamara, who will continue to lead the talk studios and oversee all original content on Spotify. Along with Ringer, their primary suppliers include Parcast and Gimlet, as well as original partnerships like Bad Robot, DC / WB’s. Batman buriedUnbothered Network by Jemele Hill and Prince Harry and Megan Markle Archewell Audio.

There is also a promotion from Max Cutler, from Head of New Content Initiatives and CEO of Parcast to Head of Content Creators and Partnerships. He manages and improves the startup ecosystem as well as licensed content and new content initiatives. Spotify plans to launch a dedicated content creation operation, which Cutler will oversee to date with a direct reporting team. As CEO Daniel Eck said in the company’s latest quarterly earnings call, Spotify aims to increase the total number of creators from the current level of around 11 million to 50 million.

In a press release, Spotify called it “a tremendous moment of ascent for so many hard-working people and our podcasting efforts in general.” He added that the goal is “to accelerate and expand our ambitions”.

The facility’s recycling is overseen by Dawn Ostroff, Spotify’s Chief Content Officer and Advertising Business Director.

The company also plans to name a world leader in the conversational content market in the coming weeks. This person will be responsible for facilitating collaboration and sharing of IP around the world.

Other new executive appointments planned for the summer include the new head of Tokmarket and the new CEOs of Gimlet and Parcast, two major acquisitions in 2019 that boosted Spotify’s podcast streaming.
