Domestic violence: what does the report presented by MPs to Eric Dupont-Morreti contain?

In a more than 160-page report presented to Éric Dupont-Moretti, two MPs recommend 59 recommendations to better protect victims of violence.

Specialized poles in the courts, urgent measures taken in twenty-four hours… This Monday, May 22, the Renaissance deputy Emily Chandler and Senator UDI Dominique Verien submit to the Keeper of Seals a report guaranteeing 59 recommendations to better combat domestic violence.

In this text of over 160 pages, the primary objective is to improve the judicial treatment of this violence. To do this, more than 300 hearings of legal plaintiffs and numerous trips to different jurisdictions were carried out.

Better cooperation between judicial bodies

In their recommendations, the MPs want the creation of a file containing information on the perpetrators of violence. But also better assistance to violent men, thanks to special prevention campaigns, or even a supervisory committee for release.

MPs are also calling for creation of specialized centers in the courts, which would make it possible to set up teams dedicated and trained in the treatment of intra-family violence, which does not yet exist. The report also calls for the development of an emergency channel in the courts so that measures can be taken within 24 hours.

The report also highlights that the utilization of initiatives implemented since 2019 is on the rise. AS the grave danger telephone, the anti-conciliation bracelet and, more recently, the precautionary order which makes it possible to establish immediate bans on contact between the perpetrator, the victim and the minors, outside of any criminal proceedings.

The Ministry of the Interior identified it 207,743 victims of domestic violence in France in 2021, mostly women, she reports 20 minutes. An increase of 21% compared to 2020. In the same year, 122 women were killed by their spouse or ex-spouse. About forty feminicides have taken place since the beginning of 2023.
