WGA East lands tentative deal with Bustle Digital Group after two-year battle

The WGA East announced Wednesday that it has reached a tentative agreement with Bustle Digital Group for an initial contract for 125 employees to work on nine of their news sites: Print, Elite Daily, Fatherly, Reverse, Nylon, Romper, Scary Mamma, The Dad And The Zoë report.

The agreement, which came about after more than two years of back-and-forth negotiations – and an unfair labor practices complaint the guild filed with the National Labor Relations Board in February – now goes to members of the bargaining unit for ratification.

“We are pleased to announce that we have an agreement,” the BDG union said in a statement. “Our first union contract could not have happened without an incredible level of solidarity and determination from our current bargaining unit. We also owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many employees who have left or been fired from BDG, who actively supported this campaign during the more than two years of negotiations.

“In the contract, we received guaranteed minimum salary increases, strong social benefits and fair severance pay and protection against dismissal. We look forward to sharing more details after confirmation.”
