Matthew Perry promises to remove references to Keanu Reeves from future editions of his memoir

Matthew Perry has seen the flaw in his style when it comes to disting Keanu Reeves.

On Saturday, he spoke at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Book Friends The actor promised to remove Reeves’ name from future editions of his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. The book was released in November 2022 and chronicles Perry’s battle with addiction.

In several passages, Perry referred to Reeves as an actor who “still walks among us,” even as “original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die.” Perry did not elaborate.

‘I said something stupid. It was a mean thing,” Perry said at the book festival, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. “I drew his name because I live on the same street. I publicly apologized to him. His name will not appear in any future versions of the book.”

He added: “If I run into the man, I apologize. It was just stupid.”

After receiving a response to the comment, Perry apologized last October.

“Actually, I’m a big fan of Keanu,” Perry said in a statement. “I just picked a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.”

In other comments at the book festival, Perry acknowledged criticism of the lack of diversity Friends earlier.

“It was a different time,” he said. “Nobody talked about diversity.” He continued, “We were all stupid… Diversity is a big thing. It’s the right thing to do.”
