Paris bakery Emily, made famous by a TV show, is asking fans to stop giving BAD reviews after visitors say it doesn’t live up to its image

A bakery made famous by the Netflix comedy-drama Emily in Paris has asked fans not to leave bad reviews after visitors said it did not live up to its image.

La Boulangerie Moderne, a 19th-century bakery in the 5th arrondissement, sees 40 percent of its business from fans of the show, which follows the romantic adventures of a young American woman played by Lily Collins.

Despite this, the company faced criticism from a minority, who claimed that the chocolate buns, croissants and service were not what they expected after watching the series.

Locals are tired of tourists queuing outside to take selfies on the quiet street.

“It brings us down. Because of the show, people have the wrong expectations,” says owner Thierry Rabineau.

“They think our products will be great. But we remained a classic neighborhood bakery. We never claimed to be anything else,” he told BFMTV News.

His daughter Inès Rabineau posted a video on TikTok urging fans of the TV series to stop following the store.

“My father is really hurt by this situation,” she said.

“A lot of people expect to find something out of the ordinary, but we’re just a very traditional bakery. We are not here to sell you a dream.”

The show’s followers both improved trade and created problems for other businesses and cultural sites that Emily visited.

The Terra Nera restaurant, named in the Les Deux Compères series, is packed with tourists, many of whom take advantage of the special Emily menu.

The Paris city council is looking forward to the show with mixed feelings. Some of Mayor Anne Hidalgo’s deputies called the series toxic American nonsense, while others welcomed the flood of viewers it brought.

The city’s tourism office has listed Emily’s favorite spots and offers tours that follow in the character’s footsteps.

The first range includes restaurants such as Brasserie de l’Isle Saint-Louis and Café de Flore.

Other restaurants featured on the show include Le Café Marly, La Société, The Bombardier and La Boulangerie Moderne.

In January of last year, Collins confirmed in an Instagram post that there would be a fourth season of the show.

Accompanied by a photo of the actress wearing an Emily in Paris t-shirt, the post read: “Woke up early to give you VERY exciting news… @emilyinparis is back for Season 3… AND waiting for Season 4!!!! I don’t know if Emily would love or hate this announcement outfit but either way she would scream. Love you all, thank you so much for the amazing support. Seriously can’t wait. Thank you very much!!…’
