These sanctions were triggered following the entry into force of a new moral police plan to monitor compliance with the ban on women appearing in public with their hair uncovered.

If this ban has existed since the Islamic revolution of 1979, it has been weakened since September. An increasing number of women no longer wear the veil on the streets, in protest after the death of Mahsa Amini.

Increasingly restrictive laws for women

Indeed, the wind of protest blowing in the country after the death of Mahsa Amini, arrested by the morality police in September 2022, continues. As a result, the state continues to persecute women and multiplies the prohibitions and laws against their freedoms.

Thus, the police began controls on the use of the veil in cars. Women who don’t wear the hijab are followed by surveillance cameras. The country’s deputy prosecutor announced that anyone who encourages women to take off the veil could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison. College and high school girls were poisoned to force schools to close.

The Iranian correspondent of France 24Siavosh Ghazi, even revealed that a legislative text is being prepared proposing tougher measures against women who bare their hair, as noted SHE. Text that plans to ban them from leaving the territory, but also from accessing certain services. A way for the state to increase surveillance and contain the challenge as much as possible.
